In 2002 we were approached about conditioning the indoor air of the temporary tents that were to be assembled at the Wright Brothers Memorial. The First Flight Centennial Foundation was preparing for a week long centennial celebration in December 2003 to celebrate 100 years of flight.
This was a challenge for the team at All Seasons Heating & Cooling. The tent would have three connected sections, with one of the sections having an airplane hangar door at one end. This was among many of the challenges that faced the team from All Seasons. Once this door was opened and closed the air needed to be conditioned as quickly as possible. Another challenge was the tent like structure itself, how to calculate how much conditioned air this structure would need. The outside air was also another consideration that needed to be counted. As this tent would be standing for 5 years, during all seasons of the year.
The team at All Seasons along with the help of Mechanical Engineer Rick Smith took on the task of designing the system. It was calculated that it would take 80 tons of conditioned air based on the structure, its occupants, the hangar door and outside air temperatures. We installed three York Predator heat pumps and three York Sunline Ultra heat pumps to provide conditioning year round.
The Wright Brothers Centennial celebration was ready to go on December 17, 2003. We consider it an honor that we were asked to participate in this small way with such a significant moment in history. |
